(Sorry
late post guys!). The media that most of us consume, besides our social media,
is television. With that being said, the genre and convention that I want to
speak on is reality television. This media genre has completely taken over the
consumption of us all. Reality television objectifies young women and men by
having them living false lives just for the entertainment of a closed minded
generation. Reality shows especially the ones in present day portrays a theme
of the fake vs. the real and the rich vs. the poor. Some of them portrays to
the consumers that bullying, fighting, and objectifying both men and women for
15 minutes of fame is ok. These shows prove that the ruling or social context
of these shows is supposed to teach of that there is only one way of life,
which includes partying, shopping, plastic surgery, and money is the way of
life. These shows only portray one way of living I feel like politics play in
the same genre of these shows because look at all of the political runners who
are up for the next presidency, they are all rich white people who have never
had to really struggle like the normal middle class or lower middle class
families. They objectify what true reality is portrayed to be nothing but a
fake fantasy. There is no difference between these rich white
politicians and these crazy basketball wives. They all are opportunist looking
for attention and getting paid for the viewership. They all want the support of
the communities, but none of them are giving back to the communities.

I watch Hilary Clinton and her thoughts on media, well social media and how it affects us and the foreign policies in other countries. In her brief discussion she talks about social media and media has both a negative and positive results on consumers and how media is used. Her take on media was that we can use it to empower each other or we can use the media as a negative weapon against each other. She talks about the insecurities that come along with media, which in my opinion is completely true. Because media is such an open outlet, it gives consumers, media personalities, news anchors the opportunity to say what they want. How many times have we watched FOX news and they've completely disrespected our president? Regulation controls the laws through government, to me regulation and media goes hand in hand. I mean look at it, deregulation deals with the elimination of laws and rules. So ok they both go hand in hand because you have politics and politicians who live by regulations they are suppose to make sure that everything we do is controlled my government, but the media outlets especially social media allows you to have deregulation, because it gives you the freedom of speech and vision (you can pretty much post what you want online) the position that politicians take on media is more of the regulation way of things because I mean come on politicians are controlled by the government themselves. http://youtu.be/8shb10Pe1MUhttp://youtu.be/pRRQ7FjVrBU
The media has been a part of politics for years now. I believe that media now and days plays a huge part in politics especially in this day and age where politicians have played a huge part in controversy. Media in this day and time has no constraints and is not rated, in this time and age you can pretty much say and do what you want regarding social media and now since social media is a huge platform, politicians are now joining the social media world in order to reach a younger audience and to connect with a whole different type of generation. The most consumed type of media is Facebook, I feel like Facebook is the largest viewed and most consumed type of media. Politics is widely discussed via Facebook from the average Facebook user to the actual politicians and all parties involved. Although television stations like different news media outlets discuss politics, they have more of a censored way of conversing about certain topics where your social media outlets have no ratings or filters and you say and express what you want. Topics through media doesn't have to be rated, that's why social media is so broad and open because it gives you stage to say how you feel. I also feel that following politics or any type of community issues through social will give you a more raw and direct feel on the a person feels it allows us to be more engaged and feel more involved about politics, religion, violence etc... Media plays an important role the average persons views.http://journalistsresource.org/studies/politics/digital-democracy/social-media-influence-politics-participation-engagement-meta-analysis

Product advertising in social media has become a large part of how we now look at everyday products. We are so use to seeing advertisements on TV through commercials, but now we are seeing these products on our Instagram pages. Every type of product is now being advertised through social media, product placement is utilized through social media by postings from the manufactures and also through celebrities and other social media stars. Most people usually do not respond to these advertisements unless it is a product that you are interested in, for me I do pay close attention to certain advertisements through my social media account unless it is something that I want to use. I personally believe that content creators placed these advertisements on social media because people are on social media all day and night. Most people including myself do not even watch television anymore, so content creators are being extremely smart by now placing their products advertising on social media accounts. Placing a product on social media is a smart move because it allows people to intimately see these products on their smartphones versus the television. The generation like documentary was brilliant because that documentary was able to open up viewers eyes to how strongly product creators use social media to make millions of dollars off of advertisement. Also celebrity endorsement is now a major major major thing in social media. Advertisers know how strong celebrity presence is on consumers and they know that if a celebrity is willing to endorse a product that, that product will sell. Product advertising will only grow bigger and soon will become a larger product advertisement platform than television (maybe) but it definitely will run neck and neck.

Social Media! How Much Do We Consume?
Social Media, followed by millions of people all over the world. The amount of time that we put into our social media accounts if timed, would never end. I have a Facebook, an Instagram, and a Snapchat! you can catch me on all three all day! Some people may ask "Why are you online all the time"? but why not? The social media that I have consumed this weekend has been all three of my social media accounts. What is cool about social media is that well one it kills time when you're bored, two it is a way to be apart of other people's lives (why do we care?) and three it is cool way to put our thoughts and pictures out there for others to see us. Sometimes when I think of my different social media accounts, especially my Instagram I sometimes wonder why do so many people have so many followers? I mean you do not even know this person but we make complete strangers apart of our everyday lives and not even in a real way, but through a picture and video! why do we as human beings feel the need to make someone we do not know or have even seen such a valid part of our daily routine? I read an article and in that article, I read that the first thing that the average person does in the morning before getting out of bed is checking one of their social media accounts! I have been on my Facebook, Instagram and my Snapchat all weekend, I do find social media informative, it is today's news outlet, social media is my newspaper, my Fox news, and my CNN. As much as I try to break away from my social media, I cant. I do believe that we have psychologically programmed our brains as if we were robots to automatically believe that we have to be apart of the social media world. I must say that I am not really sure what the world would be like today without social media! I love the likes and attention I get from likes and comments on a picture or video that I post!
