I watch Hilary Clinton and her thoughts on media, well social media and how it affects us and the foreign policies in other countries. In her brief discussion she talks about social media and media has both a negative and positive results on consumers and how media is used. Her take on media was that we can use it to empower each other or we can use the media as a negative weapon against each other. She talks about the insecurities that come along with media, which in my opinion is completely true. Because media is such an open outlet, it gives consumers, media personalities, news anchors the opportunity to say what they want. How many times have we watched FOX news and they've completely disrespected our president? Regulation controls the laws through government, to me regulation and media goes hand in hand. I mean look at it, deregulation deals with the elimination of laws and rules. So ok they both go hand in hand because you have politics and politicians who live by regulations they are suppose to make sure that everything we do is controlled my government, but the media outlets especially social media allows you to have deregulation, because it gives you the freedom of speech and vision (you can pretty much post what you want online) the position that politicians take on media is more of the regulation way of things because I mean come on politicians are controlled by the government themselves. http://youtu.be/8shb10Pe1MUhttp://youtu.be/pRRQ7FjVrBU

I definitely agree with that! I think that everything and everyone is controlled by the government. But not just gov but MONEY! I feel like money talks and these politicians go where ever the bank roll goes! Media is definitely regulated. How many times have crimes been in the media and we get different stories where one news leaks one thing and another leaks something different ? They tell us what they want us to know and whatever will get them money! But hey that's just me !
ReplyDeleteIs it really bad that social media allows deregulation? When you think about it everything is regulated. Our shows are regulated, what we wear is regulated, what we eat is regulated, and how we think is regulated. The government and money control everything. News is only what they want us to know and influences how we think. The internet can't be regulated because it's so broad and that freedom is oh so sweet. Don't mind me though, I'm just a tumblr junkie.
ReplyDeleteThis is an interesting point that social media as a media space is "deregulated" in the sense that people can say whatever. Is that just another name for "free speech" in this case? As far as political-economic regulation, social media companies are bound by plenty of restrictions.
ReplyDeleteFrom that link you posted, what do Hilary and Bernie say about social media regulation? How are their views different? You lump politicians together as promoting regulation, but there are certainly differences between their various policy proposals!
